Every Step is a Prayer

21 Sep

I was speaking with an elder yesterday who told me to pray with the sunrise.

As the sun is hanging on the horizon in the evening, pray facing the setting light.

Any moment in between these two and you should find you have nothing to do,

well you should pray then too.

I heard that a prayer is every stitch that holds down a bead.

Be sure to give thanks for all that you have before you voice what you need.

After you are done being grateful, the list of needs is likely to be brief.

Every step is a prayer. Every moment. Every heart beat.

If you choose to live a life like this, there is no way you will yourself

deprived spiritually.

I know a basic prayer in my Dane Zaa language and that short prayer means a lot to me. I am using the words that my ancestors have used since time immemorial to give thanks upon the same land they dwelled upon. In this prayer I give thanks for the land, because it sustains us and without it, we would have nothing.

He gave you great wisdom. The sunrise is the birth of a new day and hope. Thank you for the gift/words of a elder. A wise person listen to the old. They have lived a life and can assist in our journey.
