Love Sounds Like

5 Jul

If love had a sound

what would it be like?

Perhaps raindrops fatefully falling

on tin roofs,

following no particular pattern,

but composing a melody.

The moment where

laughter first bursts forth

from a young babe’s lips?

Is it the very vibrations of an “I love you”

said after one empties

and shares their entrails,

the worst of them exposed

on the table between the two.

What does real love sound like?

A bird in early morning,

a grandmothers evening story?

My ears have heard it

over a thousand times

yet forget the sound so easily…
